The Luck of the Italians!

Happy Friday the 13th everyone.  In the spirit of today, Friday the 13th's ill-omened notion, I thought I'd share some Italian superstitions that have been passed down from my family:

Rather than Friday the 13th, Italians have Friday the 17th as a day of bad luck

The Diana Basehart Foundation - for the love of animals

A Real Felici Events Fundraising Afternoon

If you know one thing about Zohe, it is her passion and advocacy for animals.

Felici Events was honored to be part of a committed and wonderful group of ladies, as we produced their second annual fundraising event.  Here is a sneak peek at this gorgeous afternoon full of animal lovers, video by by Brian Peddicord.

Breast Cancer Awareness Mitzvah Pink Celebration Theme

Breast Cancer Awareness Mitzvah Pink Celebration Theme

Pink Bat Mitzvah in Honor of Arin

Montecito Country Club - photos by Jay Farbman

If you know Zohe Felici, you know she is a kid at heart!  One of her favourite events this past year, was Arin's Bat Mitzvah.  The theme of the event was pink, honoring breast cancer survivors including Arin's grandmother.  The Mitzvah was dedicated to another one of Felici Events' clients, The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara.

The party starts from the entrance.  We laid out a pink carpet and hung paper puff balls to greet guests as they arrived, they knew they were at the right place even before stepping foot into the party.

The client wanted to incorporate the Western Wall as a 'leave wishes for Arin' welcome / guest book.  We found this replica from a local rabbi and doctored it up a little bit with foliage and hung baskets to leave notes for Arin.

The pink frames we found were a nice added touch throughout the event.

Maintaining a whimsical feel, we used pliable wire strands to hang the escort cards and paper puff balls from the main chandelier.

The first things guests did once inside was walk into cocktail and hors d'oeurve hour, we made the first part of the celebration KID friendly by having their own bar.  After all, it is a kids party - Mock-tinis all around, cheers!

These girls must-ache you a question......

The kids dining area was whimsical and fun.  Playing with the height of the ceiling of the club's main dining area, we used large round balloons as part of the centerpieces, tied to basic daisy floral with rock candy incorporated into the piece.

Inspired by slinky's over a dance floor, we re-created the concept using less heavy, more conducive material.

La Tavola Linen combined with flowers by Modern Day Design were the instrumental design elements to incorporate the pink theme.  This was the adult side of the banquet room, which still suited the theme, however, became more classic with the addition of shantung linens and combined mono-chramatic floral pieces.  The glass vases wrapped in fun paper maintained the joviality of the celebration while exuding class.

We also sought out lighting experts LBPS Events to warm up the gorgeous, yet cavernous room, Fucshia toned up-lighting did the trick. They also helped us infuse some design inspirations the client presented us with, such as the elegant white tufted couches and adhering the slinkies hanging above the dance floor, which definitely created a festive ambiance.  Guests loved dancing underneath it, event the guest of honor and her family did the hora underneath it.

One of our client's must have was a candy bar.  Here Felici Events created a similar design concepts as the Mock-tail Station we had at cocktail hour, but incorporated more silver with the linens, and candy itself.

We included a dessert and cupcakes by Wayne Kjar Cakes as the sweet endings to the night.

Held at the Montecito Country Club, a quintessential Santa Barbara venue conducive for weddings and social events, this celebration not only wowed the guests, but also the guest of honor, her friends and most importantly her mom, our client.

Incorporating the pink theme into the event was not only girly, fun and right up Felici Events' alley, it also created a challenge to produce a celebration which did not feel like a baby shower, but instead, reflected the coming of age of a very smart and shy young lady who just happened to love pink. Mazel Arin!

GREAT night to all!  Here is a sneak peek from outside the Montecito Country Club looking into the celebration.

TA-DA! Felici Events Team who helped orchestrate Arin's Bat Mitzvah into a very special Kid + Adult Pink Party.

Ciao Everyone!

Intimate Santa Barbara Beach Wedding with Gold and Ocean Decor

"Goldie but Goodie".

This intimate destination wedding Felici Events produced with a team of amazing wedding vendors, was a classic, elegant, beach-flaired and bonafide celebration.

The couple met on a set in Hollywood.  Both movie buffs, their save the dates were re-creations of their favourite movies, including Sixteen Candles and The Rear Window.

The absolutely talented Jessica Lewis got to know the couple so well during their engagement shoot and planning process, that they all had fun playing with the pre ceremony photos. They got to relax and incorporate the decor and  design of the ocean front rental home, to re-create more movie scenes, and have some fun with the textures and breath-taking views.

The soft and tropical light blue, gold and ivory decor was the mastermind of Nico from NLC Productions.  The ceremony location sits on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean which is landscaped with sand, perfect for a 'toes in the sand nuptial experience'. The bride wanted to incorporate ocean-themed decor with gold and light blue.  Nico created a royal feasting table with gold accents, soft hydrangea centerpieces, gold shells and place card holders with orchid touches.

This weekend marks a very special wedding for Felici Events, as we are producing the wedding of Danielle and Matt.  Danielle first met Zohe back in 2007, when she applied for an internship with her. Five years later, when Danielle called me to let me know she was getting married, and wanted me as her wedding planner, I was thrilled, touched and honored to be a part of Danielle and Matt's future and BIG day!  We're celebrating their nuptials this week-end in Wine Country, and boy do we have some treats in store.

Even more exciting is working with the creative and talented Dustin Waller of Waller Weddings Photography.  He showcases his talents and creativity below, as he took the happy couple through various of Santa Barbara's backdrops to capture their engagement pictures.

Of course, our favorite, as dog lovers, is the one with Harlow, their puggle and ring barer.

Wine Country Wedding - Hollywood Couple

A HOLLYWOOD COUPLE EXCHANGE VOWS FOR BETTER AND FOR BUSINESS

When L.A.-based Taylor Latham and Andrew Major decided to tie the knot, they couldn't imagine a more beautiful place to say "I do" than Santa Barbara's wine country. "We love it there," attests 31-year-old Taylor, vice president of production at Double Feature Films. "It's only two hours away but you feel as if you're transported to a different place, somewhere south of France or Tuscany," she says. "As soon as you pass Santa Barbara," she adds, "your heart rate slows down and you start to smile."

The couple's love affair with local wines began two years before they actually became an item. "We were best friends before we started dating and we'd always go to the wine country together," explains Andrew, a screenwriter, who originally met Taylor in 2001 when she hired him as an assistant. Every few months, the two would rent a van and invite a group of mutual friends to explore the wine country for a couple of days. "It was our favorite thing to do," says Andrew, also 31.

After he proposed to Taylor in October 2006, the couple scheduled a summer wedding at Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery in the Santa Rita Hills. The couple wanted to make their special occasion a weekend event and invited all 185 guests to Friday's rehearsal dinner at Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos. The next morning, the group gathered at nearby Nojoqui Falls to play football and relax before the ceremony. "By the time the wedding started, everyone already knew each other," says Taylor, adding that neither she nor her groom were nervous before taking the plunge. "Everything worked like clockwork, so there was not a moment of stress."

The mother of the bride, 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl, agrees. "Taylor is the most organized person alive," she attests. "She and Andrew did everything, and I was happy to let them. It's the reason we didn't fight-I had no say!"

Following dreamy afternoon vows against a backdrop of rolling hills and oak-studded grasslands, the reception kicked off with a cheese and wine pairing in the barrel room, where guests kept cool until dinner, served in tents on the lawn. Collaborating with the caterer, the couple had designed a menu of steak, salmon, and fried green tomato salad-Taylor's favorite complemented by a selection of Foley's wines. But it was the wedding band that stole the show. The couple say that the absolute highlight was seeing Taylor's 89-year-old grandma having a great time on the dance floor.

Not surprisingly, their pals proclaimed this was the best wedding they'd ever been to. "We had spent so many weekends together in the wine country, this was a special place for all of us;' says Taylor. Including the longtime friends of her mother also added to the fun atmosphere. "The whole night, our single male friends danced with my mom's single female friends. They all loved it!"

For Leslie and her husband, Aaron, sharing the extraordinary day with their own close circle was icing on the cake. "Getting married is supposed to be something you do in the context of your 'community' it's how your extended family endorses, celebrates, accepts you as a couple," says Stahl. "Taylor's 'community' has included our friends, too, so it was important to have them there."

Andrew-and-Taylor
Andrew-and-Taylor

To thank family and friends for coming to their wedding, Taylor and Andrew wanted to share something that reminded everyone of the wine country event. When the couple couldn't find gifts they liked, they decided to create down vests for their guests. "We also designed our own stationery with a logo of a simple, stylish wine barrel, and then added the logo to the menu and our gifts for the wedding party." Andrew says. "Everyone loved them and asked where we had found the design."

Subsequently the newlyweds set out to create a whole line of vino-inspired apparel, including neckties, headbands, scarf belts, and tote bags. They aptly named their now thriving business Little Barrel. "We had so much fun planning our wedding every night after work that we knew we'd enjoy starting a business together," Taylor. Adds Andre "Little Barrel has become the best excuse to be together, travel the world visiting vineyards, and drink more wine." – Isabelle Gullo

Traditional spanish style cultural event and wedding venue

Felicidades y Viva  Mexico!!!!

Casa De La Guerra Spanish Theme Wedding Reception

Old Spanish Days hits close to home for me, as I was born in Mexico City and lived there until I was five, and visit as often as I can.

In honor of Mexican Independence Day - celebrated on September 16th - I want to share one of our favourite weddings that we have produced at this authentic and rustic Spanish style venue.

Casa De La Guerra is one of the most important remnants of Santa Barbara's Spanish-Mexican heritage and offers one of the most charming outdoor courtyards in all of Santa Barbara for any festivity.

Located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, it’s zoning allows for a later noise curfew, making it one of the few outdoor venues permitted to play music as late as 1 a.m.

Another advantage of this picturesque Spanish Colonial location is its proximity to various downtown hotels.  This allows for out of town guests to easily walk to and home from the party as well as experience Santa Barbara’s local nightlife.

Ideal for rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, corporate dinners or any party; the Casa is a great choice and offers complete privacy for your event.  With the ability to bring in your own rentals, caterers, etc. personalizing this venue is easy and does not break the bank while you enjoy your festivities under the stars!

#Professional #wedding #vendors

Proof of why hiring a team of professional wedding vendors are a must have for your BIG - wedding - day.

I have heard it over one hundred times times, for pretty much every type of vendor:

"Oh, my cousin done events and will make sure the day runs smoothly, we don't need a coordinator"

"I have an aunt who used to have a flower shop and will make the flowers"

"I have a good friend who is a commercial photographer"

Pictures speak louder than words.  This is why it is imperative to have a team of experienced wedding professionals (in this case, photographer) (coordinator, florist, etc) on the BIGGEST day of your lives!  You could be gambling it all if you don't.

Zohe Felici's Italian blood flows through everything she does and her event-planning company is no exception. "I started the company, Italian-born, Italian-raised, born to entertain. That's the nature of being Italian," she said. I only seemed fitting to name the company after her Italian surname: Felici Events. The 38-year-old was a catering manager for Bacara Resort & Spa, where she learned she loved the special events industry. She moved into a position at another event planning company, and four years later knew it was time to start her own business.

Felici said she is a Scorpio, so naturally she wants to take on a leadership role, to drive and to take charge. Her staff consists of two part-time employees and six interns, some from UC Santa Barbara.

Felici Events mostly serves as a base for event planning and out sources the details to other companies. "I get the caterer. I'm behind the design, the decor, musicians, that sort of thing." she said.

Felici enjoys working with nonprofits, including Girls Inc. in Santa Barbara. She recently organized different events through the Jewish Federation of Santa Barbara at her other business, Southern California Mitzvahs.

Felici Events was behind developer Michael Towbes 80th birthday celebration, which benefited the Granada Theatre Capital Campaign. "We created a dinner theater experience for almost 700 people at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort," she said. The experience included seven acts and performances.

Does Felici put on her event manager hat for her friends' and family members' gatherings? A little bit, but not too much. "I like to be pampered," she said, referring to the fact that she relaxes and enjoys events centered around her friends and family. "I definitely coordinate and put the events together though."
